As technology continues to evolve and proliferate, it is increasingly interwoven into the everyday social, economic, civic and academic lives of millions of people. As a result, people rely on technical documents that are precise, concise and organized to help them navigate lives saturated with complex information. Kutztown University’s new undergraduate certificate in technical writing addresses this demand in a nine-credit format.
Writers who can clearly communicate complex processes to diverse audiences in a variety of accessible forms are highly sought after, especially in the health, science, engineering, computer science and finance fields. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts the demand for technical writers to grow by 8% from 2018-2028, almost double the rate for the average of all occupations.
This certificate helps students become more adept at composing and analyzing technical documents produced for a variety of audiences and purposes.
The certificate will require two courses in producing and analyzing technical communication and an elective course that allows students to gain more experience within a particular area of technical communication. The certificate will allow students to adapt to the ever-changing technical landscape and help them excel in a range of professional technical communication situations.
