Introduction to Automation: Automation or automatic control is the use of various control systems for operating equipment such as machinery, processes in factories, boilers and heat treating ovens, switching on telephone networks, steering and stabilization of ships, aircraft and other applications and vehicles with minimal or reduced human intervention. Some processes have been completely automated. Basically Automation is something which reduces human effort. Objective of automation • lesser influence of human factor to technological process; • improved production reliability; • increased production speed and quality; • prevention of emergency situations; • Improved production control. Engineers can now have numerical control over automated devices. The result has been a rapidly expanding range of applications and human activities. Computer-aided technologies now serve as the basis for mathematical and organizational tools used to create complex systems. Notable examples of CAx include Computer-aided design(CAD software) and Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM software). The improved design, analysis, and manufacture of products enabled by CAx has been beneficial for industry. Types of automation • ANN – Artificial neural network. • DCS – Distributed Control System. • HMI – Human Machine Interface. • SCADA – Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. • PLC – Programmable Logic Controller. • Instrumentation. • Motion control. • Robotics Application of automation 1. Food and drink 2. Stores 3. Automated mining 4. Automated highway system 5. Automated waste collection 6. Home automation 7. Industrial automation Our
