Many of these changes were proposed by the capital markets regulator in a discussion paper issued in January 2020. Sebi has clearly mandated that Independent Financial Practitioners and Advisors can not call themselves or use the terms such as Wealth Advisor or Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) or Financial Planner etc to describe themselves. If you are working for a particular product, you can be termed as Agent but to be known as Investment Advisor, you need to be registered with SEBI as per their mandated guidelines.
